Anyway if not, then to summarize, Apple said that new versions of iOS and iPadOS (one due to come out in the coming months) will have applications that will "scan" iPhones and iPads which they say will help limit the spread of child abuse images.
Well this is all well and good. We are all for this great idea.
New Tech has long been spying
But
A couple of things though, one we know Apple along with other new technologies have been spying on their customers for years, so now Apple is actually coming out to say that they really are. Well, they did come out with a very good excuse for doing so.
And two, it is rich for them to say that they are for the safety of children, when for several years they have full knowledge that in some of the factories where iPhones and iPads were being built, they were using child labor and/or workers were working in inhumane and hazardous working conditions and work deadlines.
So much for advocating for child safety.
Good Cause
It's alright, see this is for a good cause.
It's alright, see this is for a good cause.
So save the children in the U.S. and to hell with the children in China and elsewhere where they are actually making the devices to do so and handling technical and customer support. Out of sight, out of mind.
What Apple is actually not saying is that just as long as we can keep making iPhones at the cheapest costs to us and selling them to gullible consumers who are willing to pay ridiculous amounts just to be among the first ones to have the latest model with the latest features and innovations (even if we know they are infringing on privacy rights), we will come out with all sorts of "feel good" improvements and find good reasons to make them sound right.
