Jimmy Kimmel, Why He Was Cancelled

(This last few days, it has been Jimmy Kimmel on every news program.)

So we are being told that late night TV host, Jimmy Kimmel was suspended because he spoke out against the killing of Charlie Kirk.

Even that isn't entirely true.

In a monologue, Kimmel said: "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them".

Highly unlikely that would be the only reason. But yes, it could have been the last straw.

Because it has been reported that the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), threatened that they could act against ABC over these remarks.

This then became a convenient scapegoat, a rallying point, talking points and a media circus that could result in higher ratings later on.

The truth is:

At the end of the 2nd Quarter of this year – The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was the most watched late night television show, per Late Nighter. This talk show averaged 2.42 million viewers.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! came in second with an average of 1.77 million viewers.

The Tonight Show (Jimmy Fallon) placed third with an average of 1.19 million views. [Source]

Numbers like these give credence to the ugly truth that late-night ratings are drastically lower than how it was in the past.

The biggest of these kind of shows, like "The Tonight Show" used to get over 10 million viewers.

In fact, the combined viewership of all current late night shows do not even reach half that number and has been on a steady and continuous decline since 2015.

My heart bleeds for Guillermo and the other members of Kimmel's crew. But there are consequences to everything. Everything is fun and games until someone get fired.
