Only in America?

Undocumented Immigrants

The proliferation of undocumented aliens is a big discussion point in many areas around the world, not just in the USA.

So we will also see protests, although sparingly, in a few other countries aimed at immigration enforcement actions against undocumented immigrants.

Only in LA

But, nowhere near that in the USA and it is noticeable particularly in, Los Angeles and in California.

[California is home to the largest population of undocumented immigrants in the United States.]

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

So ICE, as part of the Department of Homeland Security, has a broad authority to enforce immigration laws. This authority is a core part of their job.

ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) specifically focuses on enforcing immigration laws within the US to protect national security and public safety.

But in Sanctuary states (such as California) and cities (such as LA), their elected officials do not assist ICE in their enforcement activities. They in fact encourage their constituents to join in protest actions and in activities that prevent ICE from doing their job.

Past Practice

In the past, undocumented immigrants were not this vocal nor this visible. They kept to themselves and kept themselves hidden (like those who are undocumented in all the other countries around the world).

They do not attend protest actions. They do not throw projectiles at law enforcement. They do not burn cars, write graffiti and destroy or damage properties.

They do not call attention to themselves. They try to remain invisible. They remain incognito. They follow rules and the law of the land. You wouldn't know they were there.

Today, it is a different time. They are all out in the public. They are loud and they are proud. And public officials are on their side.
