People Shooting Up Americans

In America, gun ownership is written in the constitution.

Now let's get this right, there are postal and non-postal employees going "postal" for decades now, meaning going to their workplaces or wherever, and shooting whoever they came for.

There are people walking up into Asian businesses and shooting Asians. And media still will not call them hate crimes.

Recently, one person droved to a predominantly Black neighborhood, walked in and shot at predominantly Black shoppers and store workers inside a grocery store.

School Shootings

For decades now, White students have been shooting up predominantly White kids inside American schools (America is predominantly White).

And now in the news, someone who just turned 18 and was legally able to purchase a gun in the State he resides in, entered (seemingly unhindered) a predominantly Hispanic school, and shot and killed Hispanic teachers and children. Police merely stood around for over an hour setting up a perimeter surrounding the school building, we are guessing because of current police protocols.

And it took one and a half hours until a border patrol agent to go inside the school and charge into the classroom where the teenage shooter had barricaded himself, and take out the shooter. The school was in a small border town, almost everyone, including police and border agents have friends and family inside this school.

Worse In 20 Years

This is now the worse school shooting since Sandy Hook.

America is filled with illegal guns. Law Enforcement confiscates thousand regularly: in the news

Debate

Everytime there is a shooting, particularly when it involves little children, the debate for gun control takes center stage. So now with the emotional outrage, the typical resulting debates have started once again.

And this will not end, as mentioned America has that right to bear arms clause. It has that big support for gun ownership. And it has a long history of, and generations of Americans owning guns  (normally used for hunting and protecting themselves) and nothing like these kinds of shootings happening, at least not before the 1990s.

Mass Shootings

These were not prevalent before social media and nothing before realistic first person shooter video games, provocative music, movies and TV shows.

Granted, Americans also used to glorify criminals but not on the level that we are doing today on 24 hour news, internet and social media. All these gave rise to all those who wanted their 15 minutes of fame and/or those who wanted to satisfy their need for it or whatever else they were craving for (including killing a large amount of innocent people).

Gun Laws

Everything is messed up.

Some states have the strictest of gun laws, in others it is like just buying a hotdog or a burrito at a food cart or food truck. None of these deters people from getting their hands on guns and doing what they want to do with them. People own and have always bought guns, legal or otherwise.

But we miss the point.

Both sides of this gun debate have stood their grounds and will continue to stand by it, and also to some extent, they both have their seemingly valid or legal reasons.

Changing Times

The fact is more like times have changed. And that more and more people have so many issues to deal with now, and society, the government and everyone have not kept up. We all have seem to be always on reactive mode or worse, knee jerk reaction mode, political grandstanding and let's support our political party mode.

The fact of the matter is that with more shootings and more people hating on the police, people are more likely to purchase guns in the hopes of protecting themselves. More restrictive gun laws will not really stop people (with good or bad intentions) from having their hands on one.

What we should do?

For one, secure our schools. There should have been laws passed for this and regulations set in place, at the very least right after Sandy Hook. This was 10 years ago!

Two, we all need to take all necessary precautions. We need to be vigilant.

And so three, we need to look out for red flags and the tell-tale signs of anyone who is planning to be the next active shooter. There will be more of these, whatever we do, and it is better to stop them before they start shooting.

And lastly, let us stop glorifying these killers.

How To Survive If Caught In An Active Shooter Situation

Be prepared. Use common sense and good judgment.

Spread love, not hate.

And politicians, stop politicizing these shootings to push for your own or your party's agenda.
