Tennis Fiasco

So Naomi Osaka eventually withdrew from the French Open after being fined and threatened to be suspended for refusing to attend the mandatory post-match press conferences.

Later on we have learned and she revealed that she had been suffering from bouts of depression for several years now.

Dilemna

Today, fans and the tennis world are torn.

Of course Serena Williams and other particpants will support her, because whether we will admit to it or not, Naomi will be one hard opponent off their list.

Professional athletes earn more money in one year than half of the world can ever make in their lifetime.

And part of this fame and fortune is directly because of the fans and sponsors who these athletes have an obligation to in connection with their line of work.

Of course now that the reason given for refusing to do the press conference is regarding health, then this saga has turned into a whole different ball game.

Pros and Cons

The debate will continue and of course a dialogue and a peaceful resolution should be in order.

This will be good for everyone involved and in general.

The only losers again will be the fans.

One can only imagine a lowly employee telling their boss that they will not speak with customers because of health issues. This is unheard of. They will even be fired on the spot.

The rich and famous can advocate for all the silent majority but really, the poor and the nobodies have to grin and bear it, less they get a pink slip and expect a bad job evaluation to follow them around anywhere they go. And these are the fans who take refuge in movies and in specatator sports and in watching or seeing their idols -- press conferences are part of that but as we've said it is now a whole new ballgame.
