10-10-10

October 10 is  Double Ten Day!

Double Ten Day is so called because in October 10, 1911 the Wuchang Uprising* took place.

It is widely celebrated in Taiwan. Meanwhile in mainland China, memorial celebrations are also celebrated, more so in Hong Kong, where parades are held.

Large Chinatowns all over the world also hold Double Ten Day parades and celebrations commemorating this historic event.

Lucky Weddings

Like other similar combination of number, this day (10-10-10) is also coveted by many Chinese couples to get married.

So much so, that in many Chinese communities, this date is normally over booked for weddings.

Birthdays

Because of the double tens, it is also believed that couples on the family way will plan to have their babies delivered (by Caesarean section if needed) on this very day.

Yes, for luck to fall on them as well as to pass it on to their newborn child.

Added Bonus

Here is an interesting fact about the tenth month (October) of the year 2010.

This month has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This is not a usual occurrence and only normally happens once every 800+ years.

10-10-10 falls on a Sunday and is probably doubly "lucky" for people who believe in such luck.

What do you think?

To me all these 1s and 0s, are basically pulling me back to  my college days. Yup, all I'm seeing are binary numbers. Only early computer geeks will understand what I mean.

*The Wuchang Uprising broke out on the night of October 10, 1911. Wuchang was occupied after one night's fighting. On the 12th, the revolutionary army also occupied Hanyang and Hankou, the other two towns along with Wuchang which make up the city of Wuhan. After these victories, preparations were made to set up a new government.
